The “art” of Audax fuelling

One of my overdue reports is for a 600km Audax from Blackpool to Glasgow and back again (starting at 10pm on a Friday just to make things interesting). There’s lots to say about that experience I’m sure but with only one manned control all evidence of passing was in the form of receipts which also coincides with buying food !

So it struck me that this makes almost an entire record of what I ate on that ride so here’s the occasionally filthy truth of the matter:

Pre ride – some pasta thing at the hotel & a mr kipling

Control 5 – Abington [365km / 4:33pm / 18hrs33]
– Peanut M&Ms [Approx cals / carbs]
– 2 x Eat Natural Bar []

Control 6 – Gretna [442km / 20:16 / 22hrs16]
(Mostly eaten at Carlisle sleep stop +10km)

Intermediate Stop – Penrith
– Coffee Drink [150cals / 27g carbs / 4g fat]
– Pineapple Pot [50cals / 11g carb / 0g fat]


Control 7 – Carnforth [552km / 08:07am / 34hrs07]
– Snickers [250cals / 33g carb / 12g fat]
– Coke [139cals / 35g carb / 0g fat]

 

General bits:
2 x high 5 iso sachets [354cals / 88g carb / 0g fat]
3 x various cereal bar [560cals / 84g carb / 20g fat]
2 x cheese bagel (one in early stages, one perched on a wall outside Keswick) [580cals / 112g carb / 7g fat]
3 x gu gels [300cals / 75g carb / 0g fat]

Grand Total: 604km / 10:20am / 36hr20 / 6,957cals / 967g carb / 247g fat

Myfitnesspal reckons the logged garmin data comes to around 20,000 calories and whilst I think most things overestimate a lot here I did spend the next days eating all things in sight 🙂
